The Department
The Department of Economics, Statistics, Mathematics and Sociology (DESMaS) “V. Pareto” was founded in the year 1999, as an interdisciplinary research center. The Department staff members belong to the Faculties of Economics, Law, Political Sciences and Statistics of the University of Messina and operate in different fields of the social sciences. Research within the Department covers several aspects of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Statistics and Econometrics, Mathematics for Economics, Sociology and Political Science. Publications of the DESMaS members appear regularly in several national and international specialised journals such as Applied Economics, Economia Politica, Economia Pubblica, Economics Letters, Empirical Economics, European Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Applied Econometrics, International Business Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Modern Italian Studies, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Management International Review, Migration Studies, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Public Choice, Revue du Mauss Semestrielle, Rivista di Politica Economica, Societes, Sociologia del Diritto, Teoria Politica. The Department offers to the students, at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level, an intellectually dynamic and vibrant environment, in which they can learn how economic systems work and the interconnections between economics and the other social sciences.
